MAS-ESS Essay Competition Awards Ceremony
The Role of the State in an Increasingly Borderless World."
|
With an objective to encourage students, economists,
analysts, and other members of the public to engage in deeper
thinking, discussion about important global trends and policy
issues, the MAS-ESS Essay Competition aims to foster a higher
level of public awareness and understanding of such issues
among the wider public in Singapore.
In conjunction with the ESS Annual Dinner, the
Awards Ceremony for the 2002 MAS-ESS Essay Competition was
held on 8 Apr 2003, at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia. Themed "The
Role of the State in an Increasingly Borderless World", the
competition saw an increase in submissions in both its "Open"
and "Student" categories.
In his welcome remarks
at the Ceremony, Dr Khor Hoe Ee, President of the ESS,
commented that the quality of the essays submitted has
improved significantly. He also noted that most of the
prize-winning essays emphasised the continued relevance
of the state in the face of globalisation, arguing that
its role has become even more important in certain areas.
