Essay Competition Award Ceremony - "Is Our Educational
System Able To Meet The Challenges Of Globalisation?"
|
| The
2004 MAS-ESS Essay Competition Awards Ceremony was
held in conjunction to the
ESS Annual Dinner 2005.
In
his opening remarks, Dr Khor Hoe Ee, Assistant
Managing Director (Economic Research and Financial
Stability) of MAS and President of ESS, said that
this year's competition attracted over 60 submissions,
many of which were of very high quality. As a
result, it was a challenge for the judges to select
the winning essays. The winning essays in both
categories had shared a common focus, stressing
on the importance of fostering greater understanding
of global issues, promoting critical and innovative
thinking, encouraging enterprise and diverse talents,
and improving the communication skills of our
students.

The 2005 MAS-ESS Essay Competition Awards
Ceremony was held in conjunction to the ESS Annual Dinner
2005.
In his opening remarks, Dr Khor Hoe Ee, Assistant
Managing Director (Economic Research and Financial Stability)
of MAS and President of ESS, said that this year's topic was
chosen to encourage the students to research and reflect on
an issue with an international dimension, unlike in previous
years when the topics had a domestic focus.
Despite the challenge faced, the competition
saw an increase in the number of essays as compared to previous
years. Over 80 essays were received, many of which were of
high quality. The winning essays in both categories showed
a depth of understanding of global economic developments and
a maturity of thought highly commendable. Both stressed that
with Asia's growing economic clout comes greater responsibilities
on the world stage and that Asia's actions have implications
for the rest of the world. Regional cooperation and integration
should be seen as a key step towards globalization, by encouraging
countries to liberalize and open up their economies.
