College.
As part of its public service, the ESS organizes
this half-day seminar on "Understanding the Singapore
Economy" annually. This series of seminars aims at enhancing
the understanding of the many facets of the Singapore economy.
This year, the conference attracted about 700 students and
teachers from various tertiary institutions. |

Dr. Khor Hoe Ee |
In his opening remarks,
Dr. Khor Hoe Ee, President of the ESS, said that, " Economics
is a fascinating subject. It involves dwelling into the economic
data and historical events to pick out regularities that can
be a guide to future developments. Economics derives its relevance
from the particular perspective it provides in interpreting
and analyzing everyday issues that concern us all."
Throughout the conference, the students were forthcoming in
their questions for the speakers, highlighting their many queries
and challenges on the numerous facets of our economic policies.
The speakers did not disappoint and engaged in an active discussion
to provide the answers, and at the same time, paint a pragmatic
outlook on Singapore's economic situation. |
