Dear Members,
MESSAGE FROM SOCIETY PRESIDENT
It is my honour and privilege to serve as the 16th President of the Economic Society of Singapore (ESS).
As a non-profit organisation since 1956, the ESS continues to bring together people from the economics and business profession in one society to discuss economic issues of relevance to Singapore and the region; raise awareness of public policies; and create network opportunities with industry. The Society also generates a forum of ideas, concerns, and interests for the intelligent general public and serves its educational role for students and teachers of economics.
In my capacity as President, I want to achieve the following objectives:
- Further expand society membership at both the individual level as well as increasing corporate members.
- Creating opportunities for new ideas by attracting younger economists and providing a channel of interaction and networking.
- Bring a closer relationship and rapport among industry, government and the tertiary sectors.
- Raising the profile of the Society by having more activities.
For these goals to be realized, the Society is grateful to have the commitment of the new 53rd Council. You will also see new faces in this Council.
I look forward to working with the Council as well as the opportunity to get to know all Society members better. I welcome any comments, ideas and suggestions members may have.
Members may want to know that our Annual Dinner for this year is on August 6th and it will be held at the Swissotel. For the first time in the history of the Society, we will be having the Annual Dinner together with the Society's official journal's biannual international conference of the Singapore Economic Review. There will be Distinguished Economists attending the Dinner as well as Conference Participants from more than 40 countries.
I look forward to meeting and welcoming you to the Annual Dinner of the Society.
