The Economic Society of Singapore Annual Student Seminar was held on 2 nd August 2009 (Sunday) at Singapore's Polytechnic Auditorium. This is one of the major events ESS organises. This year's series on “Singapore's Economy and the Financial Crisis” is primarily aimed to enhance the appreciation of and raising the awareness level towards current economic issues of topical interest amongst students from junior colleges, polytechnics and centralized institutions. This year, the Seminar was attended by 300 participants from various Tertiary Institutions. The seminar was kicked off by the introductory remarks of Dr Joshua Greene Chairman, ESS Education Subcommittee and Deputy Director, IMF – Singapore Regional Training Institute. This year, the ESS Annual Dinner was held on 6th August 2009 at
Swissotel The Stamford bringing together 680 members of the
economics profession from the academia, the government and the business sectors.
ESS has the privilege to have Dr. Tony Tan as guest- of- honour and share his insights on the global financial crisis and the implications for Asia. He gave an update on the crisis and talked about the economic and financial outlook going forward and ends with some thoughts on the implications and challenges the crisis poses for Asia.... more |
