ESS Corporate Breakfast Forum 2012
"Global Economic Risks and Implications for Asia”

 The Economic Society of Singapore (ESS) organised a corporate breakfast forum held on 9 th January 2012 at Picasso2 (Level2), Pan Pacific Orchard on the “Global Economic Risks and Implications for Asia”.

The program was extended only to the corporate leaders of ESS community and its objective is to facilitate interactive and free flowing discussion to provide them with a better understanding of challenges in the external environment.

The speakers for this event were Dr. Leslie Teo, Chief Economist & Deputy Director, Economics and Investment Strategy Department of GIC, who spoke on the global economics and Mr. Manu Bhaskaran, CEO of Centennial Asia Advisors who spoke on

the Asian political and economic developments. This forum was chaired by Professor Chew Soon Beng, ESS Honorary Treasurer.

Launching of the MAS-ESS Essay Competition 2011/2012, 27 th January 2012

Once again, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Economic society of Singapore invite entries for the Essay Competition 2011/2012. Held annually, the Competition seeks to promote economic Literacy and encourage public awareness and debate on economic policy and financial issues affecting Singapore.

The Essay title is: “Moving Ahead with the Times: Managing External Challenges and Internal Diversities in Singapore”

Competition Criteria

This year's Competition is open to all pre-University students studying in Singapore, regardless of nationality, as well as all the pre-University Singaporean studying abroad. The Competition invites submissions from Polytechnic, Centralised Institute, International schools, and Junior College students, as well as from pre-University full time national servicemen (NSF). All entrants must comply with the Terms and conditions of the Competition. The Competition will run for about 2 months beginning 27 th January 2012. All essays must be accompanied by a completed entry form and a 300-word summary, which must be received no later than 1st April 2012.
